La Paloma Glacier

Only an hour from Santiago, we arrive at Yerba Loca Park, the gateway to one of the most emblematic glaciers in Santiago: The La Paloma glacier. A panorama you should not miss.

It's amazing to think that just two hours from Santiago, we can access a unique mountain landscape, and reach one of the region's emblematic glaciers. We start from Santiago, following the route "Camino a Farellones" up to turn 15, where we turn towards the valley of Yerba Loca, the walk's starting point.

The route is simple, but it requires good physical condition because to reach the foot of the glacier we must walk 14 km. The trail starts at Villa Paulina, with a slight difficulty path parallel to the Yerba Loca estuary. Along the way, we will pass by wetlands and vegas, wildlife viewing places such as picaflores, cururos, condors, and lizards. The trail is quite nice until the frozen waterfalls, where the trail meanders, having to climb a zigzag between the rocks to reach the area of Piedra Carvajal. We will set up camp here. The view from here is impressive, by day as well as by night.

The following day, we continue our walk along a gentle path that leads us to the viewpoint of the La Paloma glacier. Here we will also have a privileged view of Cerro Altar and other nearby summits. An excellent panorama of just two days brings us to the incredible scenery of glaciers and mountains.
