Mt El Plomo with its almost 5500 masl, is the highest visible summit of Santiago and can be seen from anywhere in this city. That is why it becomes a constant invitation to conquer its peak. It was first climbed in 1896 by the European Brandts and Luckes. Previously, the Incas had already climbed to its peak all along the 15th century. It was an Apu (Guardian) for the Incas: a holy mountain that protected the valleys that irrigated their crops. In 1954, a sanctuary was discovered and the body of a child that had been sacrificed by the Incas in honor of the Sun God, Inti. Our route passes precisely through this place, known as the Pirca del Indio.
Our expedition to Cerro El Plomo consists of 3 days, from the ski center La Parva from where we will go to our base camp. From here, we'll head for the summit. The trail is technically easy. Since we will climb to 5424 meters, it will be a physical challenge, so we will move slowly to acclimatize and avoid altitude sickness.
All our efforts will be rewarded at the summit. Here we will have a breathtaking view of the Central Andean Cordillera and a privileged view of the Gran Santiago.
